The original Footprint wrench

A Sheffield design that has kept its grip since 1875

First developed in Sheffield in 1875, the original Footprint wrench is still made for the same essential purpose: gripping work securely when ordinary tools are not enough.

Its drop-forged hook, precision-hardened teeth and distinctive two-part construction tighten their grip as more pressure is applied. Available in 7, 9 and 12-inch sizes for plumbing, engineering and general trade use.

Manufacturing is part of who we are

Footprint is not simply a name applied to a finished tool. At Admiral Works in Sheffield, manufacturing knowledge shapes how our tools are designed and made.

Take the Footprint brick bolster. Each one goes through 14 manufacturing processes, transforming high-quality carbon steel into a tool made for repeated professional use. It is drop-forged from head to blade, hardened and tempered for a long cutting life, and finished with practical details developed for the job.

That is what British manufacturing means to us: understanding how a tool will be used, then making every detail serve a purpose.

Sheffield toolmaking, carried forward

The Footprint name began with the invention of the Footprint wrench in 1875. The business behind Footprint also carries forward a toolmaking heritage that reaches back to Alfred Ridge & Sons in the 1760s.

Across generations, Footprint tools have been made for tradespeople in Britain and around the world. The methods have evolved, but the standard remains simple: make dependable tools that offer lasting value.
